Economic valuation of use on Non Marketable Forest Products in Protected Area of Sultan Adam Great Forest

ABSTRACT
Pressure
against forests become increasingly
severe during three decades in Indonesia. Increasing of food demand, investment in economic
development framework require more wider
of land. The major opinion which assume that value of forest would more higher just if it was
changed to agriculture or land mines, in other word forests often undervalued.
Consequently, forest always become main target of function conversion to non-forestry
activities. People realizing the value of forests when it's increasingly
scarce. The research identified potential, kinds of non marketable forest products, and calculating the economic value of non marketable forest
products in Sultan Adam Grand Forest Park. Identifying the species was conducted on the sample of 100 hectares width by creating line plot sampling of width 20
meters and 1000 meters length. Data were analyzed to explain types of species,
frequency, relative frequency, density and relative density. Calculating the value of non marketable forest products
was done by making Contingent Valuation Method (CVM)
survey. Amount of Willingness to Pay (WTP) directly ask to the respondents
using questionnaire. Respondents were 243 peoples in five villages; Belangian,
Artain, Paau, Kalaan and Rantaubujur. The result of research, non marketable
flora consist of 7 species of used as
food ingredients, 2 types species of medicinal and tonic, a species potent to
cosmetics substitution, one type of pest poison, one of handy craft. There are
8 species of birds among of them are endangered species like hornbill (Buceros
rhinoceros) and haruai or Kalimantan Peacock ( Argusius argus).The Large
mammals such as deer (Cervus unicolor), antelop (Muntiacus muntjak) and wild
boar (Sus srofa) still found in it’s footprints and be informed by local people
Willingness to Pay of locally perspective was Rp.494,483,164.61 per year or Rp.
7,271.81 per hectare per year as preferences to non marketable forest products
they used.
